Medina Bioremediation Division

Through the work of an experimenter with A&L Mid West Labs it became apparent that one of the modes of action of Soil Activator is to increase the metabolic activity of bacteria in the soil treated with the product. Another study indicated that the respiration of indigenous soil bacteria is significantly increased when the soil is treated with Medina Soil Activator. In this case the increase was over 2000% when the soil was treated with Medina Soil Activator as compared with the untreated control.

The information contained in these two studies was observed by a scientist with Woodward/Clyde Consultants. The two studies combined convinced him that Atrazine residues were being decreased in Medina treated soils due to enhanced microbial consumption of the organic herbicide. This created the thought that perhaps Medina Soil Activator would stimulate the microbial breakdown of petroleum hydrocarbons in soils contaminated with these compounds. Woodward/Clyde had an upcoming bioremediation project in Alaska in which they ultimately incorporated Medina Soil Activator as a treatment agent.

The results of the Woodward/Clyde study were significant. Despite the cold northern Alaska climate, the degradation rates of the hydrocarbon (diesel fuel) were felt to be significant.

As a result of this project and its favorable outcome, Medina Agriculture Products Company, Inc. entered the bioremediation market place. Since that time Medina has added to its line of products that support the bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons. In addition to Medina Soil Activator, which is labeled Medina Microbial Activator for the bio market, Medina manufactures the following bioremediation products.
